Designing with Carpet

Your home is your castle, and decorating it should be a royal affair. The furnishings,
colors, textures — even the smallest accessories reveal facets of your personality and
preferences. Carpet, with all its asthetics and practical riches, is a wonderful design
medium.

PATTERNED SAXONIES

Patterned Saxonies can work beautifully with any decor from casual to formal. The pattern is created out of a single color by giving some of tufts added twist.  These tufts then reflect light differently than straight twists.

VELVET

Velvet carpets are elegant constructions with fine, densely twisted tufts. The tufts appear to blend together, creating
a rich sweep of color that lends itself to formal settings.

SAXONY

Saxony solid color styles have a rich appearance that is
ideal for traditional or formal rooms. Saxonies have more
tip definition than velvets — you may hear the term "pinpoint" or "pencilpoint" tip definition associated
 with them.

Premiere Collection by Mohawk

Once you've narrowed your choices to two or three styles that fit your home and budget, you then have to determine the best value. It's important to weigh all factors, including face weight, density, gauge, stain protection, twist level (for cut piles) or tuft bind (for loop piles) and warrantees.

Every Premier Collection style carries a "Durability Rating." This rating system combines all of the factors listed above to the composite number. To receive this rating, each Premier Collection style is tested under real-world conditions. The test results are
evaluated along with its construction specifications and performance features. Because
the rating is derived by a standardized computer model, every style is rated consistently from style to style and year to year.

Rating numbers range from 1.0 to 5.0.

1.0-2.5 — Recommended for light traffic areas.
2.6-4.0 — Recommended for moderate to average traffic.
4.0 and higher — Designed for heavy traffic areas.

Carpet Styles

Texture - Curled or twisted tufts make for a textured surface that helps
mask footprints. Especially suitable for less formal decors.

Frieze - A type of textured carpet with highly twisted tufts that curl at
the pile surface. Especially suitable for higher traffic areas.

Loop - Loop pile with tufts of equal height or multi-level loops.
Multi-level loops form beautiful patterns using solid colors. Broad
application with durable wear in either construction.

Pattern Cut Pile - Sophisticated look made using Saxony yarn, but generating
a pattern look by tufting cut pile height. Appropriate for formal or
informal room schemes.

Cut Pile Berber - Casual cut pile construction using a combination of big
tufts and small tufts. This type of carpet usually contains small flecks of
dark color on lighter shade background colors. Informal in construction but
adds excitement to any room.

Saxony - A dense level-cut pile. Yarn tufts are closely packed, presenting
a smooth, luxurious surface. Generally for formal settings.

Cut-Loop - Yarns are tufted into large islands of high cut tufts and lower
loop tufts to form a sculptured pattern. Suits more informal settings.
